Gia Kancheli passed away

The composer was born on August 10, 1935 in Tbilisi. There he graduated from the music school, then from the geological faculty of Tbilisi University and then the future composer entered the Tbilisi Conservatory.
For the General public, Gia Kancheli is known as the author of music for performances and movies, including music for such works of George Danelia as "Mimino", "Kin-DZA-DZA", "Do not grieve", "Passport" and others. Great composer made more than 40 performances with theatre director Robert Sturua Gia Kancheli composed seven symphonies and chamber music, performed around the world by the most famous conductors and orchestras.

The composer also wrote choral works. The Russian premieres of his compositions Little Imber (2004), Amao Omi (2007) and Dixi (2008) were performed by the Moscow chamber choir. Kancheli had a strong friendship with conductor Vladimir Minin.
